| GFCI tripping/Blue Ridge Spa |
We have a Blue Ridge Spa that we purchased from Lowe's in 1999. All has been well until now. The GFCI immediately trips when the hot tub is on or off. Originally, my husband replaced the breaker in the electrical box because he was sure that it had gone bad. Same problem. So, we called an electrician who said it had to be an underground wire because it was tripping when the hot tub wasn't even running. His logic was that it had to be between the breaker and the emergency shut off since the hot tub was off and the GFCI continued to trip. The electrian checked the breaker, it was fine but then he disconnected the white wire and it didn't trip. He said there was a break in the white wire underground. My husband dug up the entire thing, replaced all the wires, rewired the thing and we have the same problem. HELP. Is it the hot tub or is it another electrical problem not related to the hot tub? Do I need to call an electrician or a hot tub repairman? My husband would like to fix it himself but it stumped what to do next. Thanks for any and all help. |

Re: GFCI tripping/Blue Ridge Spa
Please be sure he has the new breaker wired properly. It sounds like he ran the neutral wire to the neutral bar in the sub-panel. IT DOES NOT GO THERE.
Be sure the neutral wire goes to the neutral terminal on the new GFCI breaker, and not the neutral bar.
If it still trips, try disconnecting components one at a time, starting with the heater. |

Re: GFCI tripping/Blue Ridge Spa
Do you think if I posted a photo you would be able to tell if it is correct? We had an electrician come and look at it and he wired it. The only way he could get the hot tub to keep running without it tripping was to disconnect the white wire. If the white wire isn't connected the hot tub runs like a dream, once he wired that it kicks off in 30 seconds. Does that tell you anything? Thanks for your help. |

Re: GFCI tripping/Blue Ridge Spa
OK, we had an electrician look at the wiring and it's wired correctly. He can't figure out why it keeps tripping even when the hot tub is off. The only way the breaker doesn't trip is if the white wire isn't connected. His theory is that there had to be a break in the line between the box and the breaker but that line has been dug up and replaced. |

Re: GFCI tripping/Blue Ridge Spa
I forgot to add that he pulled the emergency switch out by the hot tub AND checked the circuit breaker. He said the circuit breaker was good. With the emergency switch off he said no power is going to the hot tub, therefore, it cannot be the hot tub. |
