Gatsby Kicks GFCI after 15 secs

Our hot tub was registering our temp as 102 and it was actually at 82 degrees and falling, so being Mr. Handyman and “knowing” it was obviously our heater, seemed to make sense at the time, I ordered up a Heater unit as it looked like the element was in there pretty tight. I got the unit and installed it, was all excited for not as our symptoms were exactly the same, temp registering higher and actual temperature in the low 80’s. I call Gatsby spas, they immediately inform me my Temp sensor and Hi-limit sensor are bad, I figuring there is no way these two little wires could solve all my issues, but for $90 at this point I am game.
Called again to clarify proper plug in configuration powered up and OH MY, it worked, that night the wife and I were enjoying our tub for the first time in months, the water was way too high as when I got in it over flowed the side, I thought that cant be good….
20 minutes later the GFCI kicked and every attempt to reset has it clicking off in 15 seconds from being powered on.
I would really greatly appreciate any help or advice anyone on this forum has for me.

How's the small circ pump flow?

Posted by on 2007-06-24 21:26:25. SW Florida (10268)

We replaced that 2 years ago, it was fine, the heater (un needed) this year......

Posted by on 2007-06-24 21:28:29. OC OR-US (10269)

Does that mean it flows well right now?

Posted by on 2007-06-24 21:44:51. SW Florida (10270)

Well nothing flows as is but when we were in it before it kicked it was....
I am not trying to be difficult, how would I check or trouble shoot this to see if so?

Would it help anything if I were to start unplugging the cords (see left hand side of Mainboard) to see if I can trouble shoot one that allows it to run for longer then 15 seconds, and if so what should I be aware of so as to NOT cause more damage

Un-plug the heater and see if that stops the gfci trip problem.

Otherwise, I hate these systems. Only because the mfgr bought out/sold out and now consumers are at the whim of crappy and expensive customer support.

Thanks a lot Jacuzzi.

I'd replace that entire control and heater system with something that is not locked up with proprietary support systems that don't exist.

Thanks, man I am feeling bad about this one now..... <img src=" title="Smile" /> Even though I called and checked if I miss aligned or switched around my Temp sensors plug ins it wouldn’t kick the breaker would it? The tech guy said if it doesn’t work, then switch them around (There is that support you referred to <img src=" title="Smile" />

Temp sensors wouldn't trip the GFCI.

It sounds like you have 2 different, probably unrelated issues.

1) tripping GFCI

2) temp issue

I'm not sure where the temp sensors go in that spa- if the high-limit is on the heater, and the spa temp sensor is in a well in the shell- two different issues.

I was concerned about no-flow in case the temp sensors were both in the heater, lack of flow would give false temp readings, as heat generated by the circ pump would stay in circ pump plumbing, not in spa, located in close enough proximinty for the temp sensors to detect warmer temp, as well as possibly explain tripping GFCI with a failed circ pump.

Sounds like that's not the case...

As Pageup suggested, this is susally the heater.

Also likely circ pump and Ozone failures. Try unplugging each one at a time.
