Help! Watkins Tigerriver iq2000 + nofault6000 no heat, then relay burnt up!

Hello, ok heres the story...got in the tub the other night, and water wasn't hot enough, no "ok" light on that the tub had reached set temperature.

I went to the breaker (siberian tub 2 breakers, 1 heat, 1 pumps) and the heater one was tripped. Odd....i reset it.

Next morning still no heat (recirc pump is OK). I pull the cover (heater not hot), i pull the IQ2000 cover, pump & heater leds are on (indicating the heater should be on),nofault 6000 hi temp reset is not tripped. I disconnect the heater plug to see if the heater light goes off & put it back. About 5 minutes later the a relay on the daughter board flames up...the heater relay had burnt up.

What is the deal?!?! I'm assuming the heater was bad, and when it reset for some reason it took out the relay board???

I'm also assuming you can't purchase just the relay board?

I'm wondering why the relay blew i assume a short of some type in the heater? would like to figure this out before buying and hooking up new board and heater. A little surpised the relay went up in flames!!

thanks for any help! - shawn

My IQ2000 crashed and burned

History - I had a tech come out a while back after we had a power outage and they said my heater was out. They replaced the heater and every thing was fine.

(One month later)
We had a few more power outages and everything seemed fine. Then (This made national news, you may have heard.) an eagle was caring a dear head and was killed in a power line, causing another outage. This time the tub did not start back up. I went out and had to disconnect the power to reset the heater about four times and then it appeared it was working. Then sometime later it blew my main 50 amp breaker. I reset the breaker and it wasn't working. (I thought) The power light was on, but the heater was not heating up the tub. (Basically the same symptoms from the first)

I called the tech guy and he came out and said my IQ2000 needs to be replaced and that it was burnt up. He also said the circulatory pump was also going out.

The tech person said the power outage was the cause, so I called our electric company and they said they didn't have a surge in our area and that I should have electrician check it out. So I did. The electrician seemed to think it was an eternal thing and was between the heater and the relays. He seemed to think the circuit board was OK, but the two T92 relays were badly burnt.

Can I replace the two relays and what do you think would cause this melt down.

One more question, my tech person ordered the IQ2020 to replace my IQ 2000, is that OK?

What's the serial number of your tub? You mention a couple of different things:

You can on an IQ2020, but on an IQ2000, there is no heater relay board, just a couple of DP/ST T-92 relays (18v dc coil) But you also state that the T-92 relays have melted, so I don't know what you have. An IQ2000 and an IQ2020 are NOT interchangeable, the control head harness is different on an IQ2020 than an IQ2000, as well as the thermistor harneses' (the thermistors are inexpensive- a new control head is not) I'd love to have the serial number <img src=" title="Very Happy" />

The serial number is GQ4B1150

That's an IQ2000. If the tech wants to drop in an IQ2020, be sure he has a solution for the different control head harness. As it is now, the existing control head will not plug into an IQ2020. Either the tech has a cool trick up his sleeve, or is unaware of the problem. Good luck <img src=" title="Very Happy" />

my IQ2000 crashed and burned

OK, I talked to the tech and he had a couple relays and a new circ pump. So I installed them and the tub seemed to be working fine. Now after a couple of hours the Ready Indicator light is blinking. And the owners manual says that is an indication that there is a problem with the temperature sensor.

I do not have a repair manual for this, any suggetions?

If the circ pump flow is good, you probably just need a new control thermistor. Be sure the circ pump primed when you replaced it, and be sure the filters are good and clean. Poor flow will also set off the ready light.

Hey Swine,

Thanks for your help. I believe the tub is up and running again.

Being an owner of a tub can be so stress full, but when they are working you can be proud you have one and it takes they stress away.

Again, from one side of our great nation to the other, Thank you.
