Hot Springs Highlife Breaker issue

I have an old Hot Springs Highlife Model K that trips the main breaker as soon as it is powered up. Initially, it looked like a heating element had blown, so that was replaced. Same issue. I opened the control box and found a cap inside that was cooked. Replaced that cap and the heater reset switch. Still no luck!

Does anyone have a schematic for this or have any suggestions?????

Re: Hot Springs Highlife Breaker issue

Was it working before and stopped working, or has this spa just been wired somewhere new?

Re: Hot Springs Highlife Breaker issue

It was working before. Have triple checked wiring and incoming voltage.

Re: Hot Springs Highlife Breaker issue

For starters, you can try unplugging components one at a time, and see if the breaker still trips.

Re: Hot Springs Highlife Breaker issue

Tried that. With nothing plugged in, the breaker still trips. So, it is somewhere inside the evil black component box. Switch.....relay......something??????

Re: Hot Springs Highlife Breaker issue

Disconnect the wires from the breaker. Does it still trip? If so, the breaker is bad, or wired incorrectly.

If not, look for burnt wires, a burnt surge protector, a stab in the dark would be a rectifier

Re: Hot Springs Highlife Breaker issue

The only thing that I saw burnt in there was a cap that went across two contactors. I replaced the cap and the heater reset switch that it looked like it went to. Other tahn that, nothing looks burnt. Without a schematic, I can't figure out what voltages I should have where.
