| My GFI keeps tripping on 1995 LA spa elec/mech controls |
if I bypass the 20 amp 110vGFI the tub works fine, it is setup for 240V and has a 110VGFI in the control pack. I have 3 large 240V relays/contactors and 2 smaller ones (really solinoids which activate 2 dip switches)
the 3rd large relay is for the heat it is good, the first one is always on? not really sure what it's purpose is and the second one is also always on but it hums or buzzes, the pump is operated by a air switch which activates one of the smaller solinoids which activates 2 dip switches.
If I unhook the heat the GFI still trips, I swapped 2 relays with each other and same thing (but now the new relay buzzes I think) but I did not verify which relay was buzzing before the swap.
my question is can a buzzing relay cause the gfi to trip or is it non related,if I unhook the white wire on the relay the GFI will not trip, but of course the tub also won't work.
sugesstions ?? I guess I do need to swap the relays again and confirm what happens to the buzz? same relay or ? could a bad ground cause a buzz,
If I add slight pressure to the contacts the Buzz stops |

I would begin by bypassing the 110VGfi inside of the box and NEVER use it again...Instead I would install a separate GFI disconnect panel outside of the tub, since you have 220V going to the system a 110VGFI does not truly protect you anyways. This may be the only thing you need to do. |

well I have a 50 amp GFI circuit breaker in my "house main panel" which runs the tub? is this all I need? it does not trip, then I have a disconnect box outside. |

you're all set then, two GFI's often tend to cancel each other out and one of them trips...the 220V GFI is all you need to protect yourself and the system. |
