older Jacuzzi 110 volt tripping plug in gfci

Hello I am working on an early 90's Jacuzzi, no circuit board just relays and one air switch to cycle through the functions. Press once "whirlpool" press again "heater/ filter", press again "filter", once more for "off". My problem is every time I go to "heater/filter it trips the gfci 110 volt plug, even when I undo the power wires going to the heater it still wants to trip. Is this just a stuck relay, or am I missing something else. It worked fine before but after sitting drained for a while it started tripping!!

Re: older Jacuzzi 110 volt tripping plug in gfci

Is this using one two-speed pump or two separate pumps?

Re: older Jacuzzi 110 volt tripping plug in gfci

Hello, thanks for the reply. It is one 2 speed pump. The pump and control box are blue the wet end is white. The tub itself is called an "Jacuzzi Whirlpool ESPREE II"

Re: older Jacuzzi 110 volt tripping plug in gfci

Well, that's a tough one. It could be any number of things. Something in your safety circuit (faulty pressure switch, for example), the sequencing switch, maybe the pump (strange that it would trip on one speed and not the other).

I would start by eliminating the pump by switching the high/low speed wires to make sure it works on both speeds. Then check the switch itself with all components disconnected. Maybe the coil is burned up?
