| tripping breakers before and now all it does is reads temp |
I have a 2001 downeast spa, with a balboa controll board, it have a bad relay so i replaced the curcuit board, i had a electrician buddy wire it for me, everything is right, at first when he had it jumpered with old board and relay, i was able to run the pumps and heater on low speed and also run the jets, it would just run constant. i got the new curcuit board installed with it still jumpered, turned on power to tub and it ran and heated, my electrician buddy wasnt able to come over until the next day and hitch it up to the relay(it worked bypassed) i got a heater to put in there for the nite so it wouldnt freeze, the next day he came over to wire the relay and it was coming up with errors ho and sn and also tripping breaker, after my friend had left i figgured i was going to try it again and all the readout reads is temp of water, no heat light(it should be calling for heat) its not tripping the breaker anymore, its just in limbo, my friends was trying to figgure out why it ran for me yesterday after i put in the new curcuit board and it wouldnt run today, the only variable i added in was the heater, im stumped any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Try disconnecting the pressure switch from the board. If that wakes it up you'll need to recalibrate the switch. |

Take a close look at your wiring diagram inside the control panel. The pressure switch (or flow switch) should be a two-wire plug. The wire from the control board will go directly to a switch on the heater or somewhere in the plumbing. |

Re: tripping breakers before and now all it does is reads temp
ok, i know where that is, there is a 4 prong plug and 2 prong plug(the 2 prong plug is the high pressure switchwhich is located on the heater tude) next to each other on the top middle of curcuit board, 2 plastic plugs. Now i have disconnected them already, i believe the power was on to the tub, should i power it down and then try unplugging, what is the correct way to do it? |

Re: tripping breakers before and now all it does is reads temp
If it would make a difference, it would be with the unit on.
So what's happening now? You're getting a temp display. Do any of the buttons work? Is it filtering? The errors you got before were probably an overheat situation. Either the heater stayed on with the pump off because of the jumped relay or the heater you put in overnight got it too hot to run. |

temp display works, buttons do nothing, its not filtering, tell me if im understanding my hottub right. in order for the pump to run it has to call for heat? |

Re: tripping breakers before and now all it does is reads temp
Not necessarily, although that will do it. It will also come on (or, should) for a preprogrammed amount of filtration (4-8 hours usually) or on high speed when you hit the jets. This is assuming you have a 2 speed pump for filtration/heating. If you have a small dedicated circ pump for the heater then it's either 24 hours or with heat demand.
It didn't work before, but check the continuity across the pressure switch with the tub off. The usual reason balboa packs go unresponsive is because of what's called a "flow closed" situation where the switch is already closed by the weight of the water when the tub is turned on and it knows the pump isn't on yet. |

Re: tripping breakers before and now all it does is reads temp
the thing that bites is, after i placed the curcuitboard it did run and heat, i went in to call my electrician buddy who thought it would take longer to change the board, and after i got off the phone with him i noticed that the tub had tripped the curcuit, i reset the circuit and i ran fine again, then i shut off the breaker my self so i wouldnt do any damage to the board since it was still jumpered, the next day my buddy come over to wire it properly and we got a couple codes, oh and sn, it tripeed the breaker a couple times while he was here and and when he left it wont give codes, wont trip breaker, i will test continuity on the 2 prong plug, (high pressure switch), any thing else you know of? |

Re: tripping breakers before and now all it does is reads temp
as far as the heater goes that i put under tub, nothing melted, no foam or wires, the only thing i could think of is maybe moisture and there are leaks under tub which i also need to fix, but now is not the time to fix drips. |

" title="Very Happy" /> It wouldn't have to melt anything. Just has to get the heater tube up to 120 degrees or so. |
