| CIRCULATION PUMP SUPPOSED TO RUN 24/7? |
IS THE CIRCULATION PUMP SUPPOSED TO RUN 24/7? TUB HAS BEEN down for summer months, replaced 2 speed pump and motor (reused old electrical cord to motor - think I wired it right).
Everthing seems fine, but it runs all the time. I have it set on thermostat mode so that if temp drops it will circulate. I have the clock set to run every 5 hours for 30 minutes regardless of heat status - yet it runs all the time - very low. When it is time for the clock or heat to RUN, the jets come on - blowing. IT HAS BEEN SO LONG SINCE I HAVE RAN THE TUB THAT I DON'T REMEMBER IF IT IS SUPPOSED TO RUN 24/7 OR JUST WHEN THE CLOCK OR TEMP DICTATES.
I HAVE TWO MOTORS - (1) runs heat and circulation and the other runs HIGH POWER JETS. PUMP TWO IS FINE IT IS PUMP (1) I AM CONCERNED ABOUT.
PERHAPS I SHOULD STATE MY QUESTION LIKE THIS: IF THE PUMP WAS WIRED BACKWARDS (RED AND BLACK) WHAT WOULD BE THE OUTCOME OR SCENARIO - ANYBODY EVER DONE THIS - WHAT HAPPENS IF IT IS WIRED INCORRECTLY?
it is a very old Marque hot tub. Big daddy - seats 5-6 probably 450 gallons at least. |

Yeah if you've got the pump speeds wired backwards, it will do just what you're saying.
A common thing to happen. Switching the high and low speed circuits should correct it.
Just be darned sure, very very sure, that the pump common lead - (usually white) - is in the correct place on the motor or it'll definitely fry stuff. |

Okay and thanks for your response. Time to call service man - and I thought I could "Do-It-Myself"! Ha! No wonder the motor smelled a little hot yesterday - darn thing ran all day - about 12 hours. |
