High Limit Switch probe placement

1997 "Class Act" spa pack, 220V I have been having a problem with the High Limit Switch on my spa pack. I am using the digital thermostat in the topside "air" control to control the heat. It has a sensor that rests inside the thermowell, and is reading proper temp (according to a mercury thermometer in the spa). The heater is working fine, and I even took out the filter to make sure it was not a flow issue. The problem was that the spa would run for about 10 minutes or so, and kick the High Limit Switch. I wanted to verify that the switch itself was bad before replacing it. The probe of the High Limit Switch fits under a small stainless cover, that rests directly on top of the heater element tube, also stainless, which is located under the spa pack. I removed the cover, which also has a rubberized foam piece attached to keep the probe in contact with the tube, and set the probe to the side. After doing this, the spa is running as it should, and everything is functioning properly. No more tripping of the High Limit Switch! I then took out my Laser Temp Probe, and checked the temp on top of the Heater tube where the probe is supposed to be. Sure enough, it's 120 degrees in that spot! So the High Limit Switch is doing it's job. I do not want to disable the switch and face a possible meltdown in the future. My question is, Where is a good place to relocate the probe without sacrificing the safety of my equipment. Is it ok just to have it "hover" above the heater tube, or should I affix it directly to the tube in another "cooler" area? I would also like to say, that I believe the whole problem is that the heater element inside the tube is touching the area right where the probe sits. To remove and tweak it, I would have to drain and refill <img src=" title="Mad" /> (no gate valves) Next time the element goes out, I'll make sure to not make that mistake again, and hope you all wont either. This has been an issue for quite sometime, and I think, I hope anyways, I'm on the right track!! David Houston, TX.

Re: High Limit Switch probe placement

Well, that worked for a day or two, and now the limit switch is tripping again. Even if just running the blower (only). I am confused. Any help on further troubleshooting this problem is appreciated. What else could cause a trip of the limit switch?

David
