Looking a getting a free spa
Ok heres the story
I placed a add localy online looking for a hot tub under $1000.00
this hot tub offered to me for free provided i move it etc
Its a 1998 Coast spa seats 6 with around 40 jets if i had to guess i would think it was a pretty expensive spa back in the day.
There are two issues with this spa.
first two years ago they improperly winterized it (never used it in the winter) So the next spring they had some leaks... these were fixed by a local spa company but they claim it still loses about 3 inches of water a week.
Is there anyway to find out where the leak is ?
Second problem
This last winter a family of raccoons made home in the insulation YIKES
Needless to say they made a mess of the insulation etc
What would i use to re insulate this spa ?
Third
Am i asking for more trouble than the spa is worth ? and getting in over my head ?
Or are these repairs just a simple matter of man hours and common sense ?
Thanks for any help advice etc
MM

Re: Looking a getting a free spa
My 2 cents says stay away from that spa. I see that the cover shows pH damage, which could have damaged more than the cover. There are so many jets you could be in for a large repair on the leak. Spray foam insulation is pretty expensive.
My opinion is I would never buy any other brand used except HotSpring...of course I am biased.

Re: Looking a getting a free spa
Well i decided to stay away from the free spa... figured it was going to be a lot of money and time to get it working
Had someone else contact me about a spa they had for sale for $500.00
So i had a look at it was able to see it full of water and running had a look all around for leaks and wet insulation etc
Listened to the pumps played with all the controls checked all the jets made sure the heat went up when i increased it etc
Everything looked and sounded great and i got a years supply of chemicals The cover was replaced two years ago threw in the utility pump he uses to help drain the spa and also got a new circulation pump he got stuck with when the main pump went a cpl of years back and he ordered the wrong pump by mistake and the local spa dealer wouldn't take the pump back.
Picked it up this morning using 4 buddys and a 1000lb dolly and ski-doo trailer for transport
$500.00 for the tub $40.00 in gas (2 hr drive each way) $7.00 in coffees $20.00 in beer ( once we unloaded the spa of course)
$567.00 total cost delivered to my place in Barrie ontario....... WOOOOO HOOOOOOO
