| OMG, The HYDRO Bill! |
jeez. we bought a hydrospa omni in the spring. the costs seemed reasonable over the summer and fall......
i just got my hydro bill for last month, and it includes the actual use of hydro over the last three months. (we have two months worth of estimates, then an actual, where they read your meter and you make up the difference)
This same period last year we used 12 kw/h of hydro per hour. this year we used 94!!!! we turned the breaker to the tub off, and played for a few days(watched the meter, etc), and the tub is sucking the hydro right out of us!
Our bill has gone up EIGHTfold of what it was last year.
i can understand an increase but for that tub to use eight times the power of our entire house? Come on.
we live in ontario, where it's been a very very warm winter. I can't imagine paying for this sucker in a normal one where the temps hit -30. two people on our street have tubs, one old and one new....and they both say they've never seen a hydro bill like mine.
Any suggestions, comments, anything appreciated. |

Do you hav a cover for the spa?
I find it very unlikely the spa is the source of your bill. Perhaps they read the meter incorrectly, or something. That's ridiculous. |

Of course we have a cover...sorry, i thought everyone did " title="Smile" />
we've got our hottub guy coming tomorrow to take a look. he's got a fancy gadget he said he can hook up to various parts to see if any of them are drawing an in-ordinate amount of power.
and it's got to be the spa. we shut it off for a few hours, and the meter slowed to a crawl, when it was flying in circles before that.
either way, you're right, it's ridiculous.
edited to add: we did check the meter.....and according to what it says now, it was read correctly back in december.
the problem is i've never read it myself, previous to this, so i have no numbers to argue with, or to even see if it was read oncorrectly...... they always seemed to be charging me reasonable hydro prices, so i never thought much of it.
i've checked me meter a buncha times in the last few days, and you can bet i'll be eying it up myself more often! |
