1993 Soverign Model 1 leak question

We have developed a under pressure leak where a flex PVC joins with an adapter in a T. I really can't see the actual place where it squirts out so I kind of think it is on top of this fitting. What I can see looks great. I suspect the right way to fix it is to cut the PVC hose and use a sharp tool and a Dremmel rotary tool to remove the flex from the adapter and prep that side for a new piece of hose and splice them together with good gear clamps. BUT Is there any PVC Flex to Hard PVC cement that I could apply that would save all that trouble? This thing is a bit of a bear to get at. I think I got the picture uploaded if so here it is.

Re: 1993 Soverign Model 1 leak question

I can't really tell which hose is leaking - is it the white flex hose going into the fitting which goes into the clear check valve?

Yes it is the upper bigger hose. Right where it goes into the adapter on that T on the top side.

I got impatient an used a fine tooth saw and cut the hose about an inch from the fitting.
The Flex is harder than a "harlots heart and brittle".
Matter of fact several of the Ozoneator lines need to be replaced.
Now I am working at removing the stub from the coupling without screwing it up so I can't put a new section of flex in it. I didn't really think I could find anything to patch the flex so I just stumbled ahead.
A fine tooth saw blade on a handle should get me part way there.
Then clean it up with a shaft handpiece and a small drum sander.
I'll be working upside down for several hours I fear.

Re: 1993 Soverign Model 1 leak question

You can do it like that, you just have to be very careful not to clean out too much and actually take some of the material away from the female piece.

I don't remember where I got it from by I have a set of Ram bits that are made for this. In this case you would just put the 3/4" bit in a drill and it takes out the material as you drill into the piece.

Maybe check a good plumbing store.

Hey "Teach me"
What is a RAM bit?

Unibit, Butterfly bit?
I have never heard of that term before.
Oh yes I goofed and went out and got a 3/4 hose and a coupler.
You got it, The hose is most likely a 1 inch.
I got in a hurry and read the size off the lower hose.

Now that I removed the control box mounting plate I can get in there a little better.
I'll take pictures.

Thank you kind sir: 50+ years fixing things and I ave never seen one of those bits. I do a lot of work with PVC so this info is going to come in handy. Now for the project. The Gods were smiling. I cut the flex off flush and found a void on one side. I took my ranger knife and cut a line across what was left in the fitting. Then I ground a sharp edge on a small old screwdriver and push and twisted until I worked a piece of the flex out. needle nosed vise grips and about a hour later I have a clean hole that I can drum sand to a nice fit with the new flex. From what I can see it looks like a hasty glue job that finally let water past. Looks like it was only half glued. Boy is that old line hard as a piece of metal pipe. I hope it softens up with a heat gun so I can get the barb in it to make the splice. Neither the old pipe to the jets nor the check valve can be moved so it is going to be a trick unless I put a loop in it. Would that be OK. It's the 1 inch flex. Thanks again for your expert opinion. I think we are going to be soaking our weary bones soon.

Re: 1993 Soverign Model 1 leak question

Yeah, I usually heat it up but a loop will work too. I've never used a barbed fitting though, only pvc couplings and primer/glue.

Great idea, I do it that way then.
Thanks again
