| Grandee Leak Found! ..... I hope.... |
Hello All, great site.
My highly reliable and very well used tub began leaking, and despite the recommendations on this site, I used food coloring, and went in from the side. After much foam removal, a manifold of sorts was found with a steady stream that will increase in volume if you put pressure on the lines. Just so I can formulate a plan of attack, would anyone have a plumbing diagram or know where I can get one? Grandee serial# G3A1245 I think it was bought in 99 (not the original owner, came with the house)
On a side note, I walked into the local Missouri spa shop, and was told by a very arrogant guy that these Hot Springs Spas are junk and will only last 10 years at best, his exact words were ANY spa would only last 10, the Grandee even more so...he would gladly sell me one of his shiny new Emerald units (not that impressed by the product or his pitch)...this pissed me off so much that I am now going to fix this thing at any cost.
Thanks! |

Re: Grandee Leak Found! ..... I hope....
You have a 3rd quarter 1999 Grandee. Was the manifold at the bank of 10 precision jets? I don't have the resources to send a diagram, they don't show that much anyway. If you see where it's leaking your most of the way there. I can get you part numbers for what you need...just describe the place it's leaking.
That Emerald salesman is a little ignorent of the spa industry. If he knew about spas he would know that HotSpring Spas can last decades. I have a 1991 Classic model and have put maybe $500 retail in it over the years. We have a 1985 Jetsetter at the store that has all the original equipment. It all depends on how you take care of it. A majority of the service calls I go on are attributed to bad water chemistry.
Keep us posted. |

Re: Grandee Leak Found! ..... I hope....
Thanks for the response. I have been performing surgery on the culprit for the last 2 hours....thank god for the Dremel! It is not a really a manifold, just a series of fittings, reducers and tubes.....a large flex line to a T out to a couple other smaller flex lines of various diameters.....damn....I'm surprised these things work as well as they do, I have seen simpler systems in modern Jet aircraft hydraulics. The leak was low, if you are facing the control panel, on the right side mid way between the filters on one corner and a moto-massage on the other corner. I can post pics if anyone wants. Not a big fan of flex lines to couplers in a high pressure system, but what are ya gonna do....
What is the best way to attach 1" flex tubing to a regular I assume schedule 40 pvc fitting? medium cement, cleaned sans primer? Any advice would be most appreciated (karma...think My Name is Earl) seriously though, thanks. |

Sorry for the slow reply. Pics would be great. I use primer and blue PVC glue. |
