How to Replace Filter Canister? Examples?

What’s the best to replace a Filter Canister.

I currently have a Rainbow top loader that’s leaking. Someone suggested replacing this with a Waterway unit instead of another Rainbow. Anyone else hear of problems with the Rainbow products?

What’s the best way to cut the old unit out and how do you splice in the new? Is it best to use PVC couplers? Any picture examples?

Also, has anyone ever used quick-disconnects on the filter canister?

Anybody?

each individual application will require it's own form of finesse, but the use of sch 80 couplers would work just fine. I could imagine that using quick disconnects would be ok as well.

<img src=" title="Very Happy" /> Hello Nexus, Rainbow top loads are a step up from the waterway. I would use the rainbow. No sense putting disconnects on this because once you glue it in it wont fit back through the hole cut in the shell. Cut the in and out pipes as close to the can as possible. You want to make sure it will pop up through the hole in the shell once cut. If your filter can is in a niche you can remove it with the can by cutting the pipes then un screwing the niche from the shell. You can use a cable saw to get a close cut on the pipes If you have problems getting the loc ring off to separate the can from the shell or niche you can cut the loc ring in half using a ziz wheel on a dremel. I would suggest you re attach the pipes using rigid pipe instead of the flex type. Just use couplings to scab it back together. Make sure you glue both sides and twist the pipe a little as you install it to make the joint. I usually silicone the can to the shell instead of a gasket. Make sure you place the filter can in the right direction according to your water flow. The can will be stamped in and out. Make sure the filter bypass valve is the correct psi type for your circulating system. Hope this helps Pork
