| Leak in Cal Spa full foam |
We have started ripping out the foam to find a leak in our tub. The water level drops significantly within a few days (4 - 6" . The foam is wet around the filter housing. We ripped out a lot of wet foam without finding a leak...Before we rip out more foam, is this something we should wait until spring to attempt? Will I have to remove ALL of the foam? How many cans of 'great stuff' will I need to fill that all back in? Is there an easy way to get the foam off of the tubes?
thank you for any help |

Lots of Great Stuff
I recently rebuilt a Cal Spa with full foam insulation. I had the same condition and wound up removing a large amount of foam. I did some research and there was a liquid sealer you could put in the water. I chose not to try it and instead rip out foam until I found the leaks. What I was finding was once the foam got wet it would never dry back out and really saraficed insulation value. To refoam I looked at a lot of options. You may try calling some of your local insulation contractors. There are some newer spray expanding foams that may be more economical. It wasn't readily available in my area so I bought Expanding Urethane which is a bit more rigid and typically used for marine applications. After some searching online I found it fairly economically and was able to fill 80% with that and top off with about 6 cans of Great Stuff. To use soley Great Stuff ould have been about 3-4 times the cost based on my calculations. Besides the expanding Urethane had a better final R-value. Hope that helps a little |
