| Need advice on replacing plumbing components... |
I have a SpaDepot spa. Recently, I noticed a small leak at the union connection to the water pump. I have decided that I need to remove the union since the PVC nut which tightens down the union is cracked. The problem is that it's not easily replacable due to all the joints being cemented together. I will describe the setup below: A flexible hose comes out of the hot tub and goes into a 45 degree 2" (Lasco D2466) fitting. That fitting then slips over one end of a 2" Magic Plastics valve. On the other side of the valve, is inserted one end of a 2" union. The other end of the union screws onto a water pump via a PVC nut. It is the nut which is cracked. My plan is to remove and replace everything at the point where the 45 degree fitting slips over the flexible hose. The problem I forsee is that when I cut at the point where the 45 degree fitting slips over the flexible hose, there will be about 1.5" of hose length that will be lost since it will remain in the fitting it was cemented to. If I replace all the same parts, I think I'll end up 1.5" short and not be able to attach to the pump. Does this sound correct? Or should I try something else? thanks. |

Re: Need advice on replacing plumbing components...
Cut the nut off.
You can buy a "split nut" at a good spa store. It comes in two halves, you put it around the pipe and it screws together. |

Re: Need advice on replacing plumbing components...
Bummer, I wish I would have known that earlier. I have already cut off the union where it attaches into the valve. I was thinking I could use a pipe reamer to clean out the inside of the valve and then insert a new union. After I had cut off the union, I found out that there is not a ream tool for this diameter (2" ID). |

Re: Need advice on replacing plumbing components...
Not that it helps but I have one, not sure where it came from though. They work well for repairs like that. |
