| Pump Leaking |
I'm a newbie to this forum and spa repair, but I'm willing to take a shot. I have a display model Coast spa. It's not the 'standard' Coast spa. My issue is the #1 pump. I took the pump out and had it tested. Everything worked fine. I reinstalled the pump and it worked well for a few days. Now I have a major leak. I tighted the couplings as best I could but I don't have any visibility of what's really leaking. I've taked the pump out again to see if there is anything obvious but I don't know how to take the "wet-end' unit of to see if the seal is broken. (hopefully I'm using the right terminology). Another pain-in-the-butt issue I have is purging the pump. It's very hard to get to the wet-end screw to release the air. I need your help and advice on fixing the pump and finding a improved way to purge it. The attached pictures show you what I'm working with. Thanks in advance. - Pat |

You didn't mention where the leak is sourcing from... inlet? outlet? pump shaft? If it's inlet or outlet, I would check or a bad or missing gasket, or a cracked nut. If it is the pump shaft, removal of the wet end and replacing the shaft seal is the proper repair.
Priming usually isn't necessary unless you know you have problems getting the pump to cycle water after a fresh drain/fill. Most pumps only have a drain plug, not a purge plug. |

You have identified problem for me. All I know is the leak is not in the outlet. I can't get a visual of the inlet and half the pump. I will check for a cracked nut. Any tricks on finding the source of the leak? Will I need some sealent or lubricant when connecting the inlet and outlet?
How do I remove the wet end? I did not find any accessible screws or bolts.
Thanks

There are either o rings or round flat plastic like washers that seal the plumbing to the wet end. To remove the wet end, you must first remove the front cover (around 8-10 screws or so) and then remove the impeller. Then you remove the 4 bolts from the back of the motor, as they go through the motor into the wet end. To fix a cracked nut, you first cut out the old nut (carefully, so you don't nick the fitting or plumbing) and you would obtain a split nut to fit over the end of the plumbing. |
