| Two Speed Aqua-flo pump not spinning up |
I have an issue with my Aqua-flo Flo-master XP2 2 speed 5 HP pump (model number 06625792-2). The pump will no longer start on it's own. After troubleshooting the 3 flashing lights issue on My Gecko (model SSPA-MP-P122-P212) spa pack I was able to get a screwdriver once reconnecting power and get the motor to spin up (via the motors fan that is somewhat exposed). This also eliminated the 3 flashing lights on the spa pack.
So it seems like I either need to replace the pump / motor assembly ($$$) or have it rebuilt or rebuild it myself. At this point if there is anything I should check prior to performing the above activities that could remedy the problem I would like to hear them. Also, if there are any places in So. Cal that can perform and warrant the rebuild would like to hear those. Finally where to get a rebuild kits and the difficulty in rebuilding one. I am mechanically inclined and have an electronics background.
Below are additional details about the spa:
2002 La Spas Concord model Gecko Controller model SSPA-MP-P122-P212 two pump system (pump having issue listed above) other pump has no issues wired for 50 amp service on a dedicated breaker, 230 volts
Have never had any issues and I am guessing the pump or motor are getting old. Appreciate any response. |

Re: Two Speed Aqua-flo pump not spinning up
As I dig into this more, I beleive the issue is tied to the start up capacitor in a Dual capacitor motor. I assume the start up cap is the larger lump on the motor and had no charge on it when I removed it from the casing. The cap is rated at 50 UF / 370 v and is made by the Aerovox company. I assume this because the motor and pump spin pretty easy. Would like some verification that this cap (of the two) is the start up cap (pretty sure as researching replacements this seems to be the correct sizing for that function)? The difficulty is trying to locate someone that will sell you that cap as a direct replacment. Looks like I may need to replace with a non OEM model.
Does this sound like the right track ? |

Re: Two Speed Aqua-flo pump not spinning up
Just to close this one out I did verify that the motor would hum when engaged, but not turn over. I did attempt to try and test the cap with a DMM, but tests were inconclusive. I went ahead and ordered the replacement "start-up" capacitor (not a run cap) from EIS Holden who is the end user parts rep for Emerson Electric motors (eis-inc.com). The cap arrived last evening and I plugged it in. The motor fired right up. Proabably saved a few hundred dollar service call. |
