1992 Hot Springs Sovereirgn isn't heating

OK. Just bought this from neighbor. Working fine before we disconnected and drained. Moved it, filled it, turned it on. Jets work. circulator pump works, but MINIMAL heat. I hear the click when I turn the thermostat up or down. Things I've tried so far...

-Rest everything multiple times

-Unplugged circulator pump for about 20 seconds and plugged it in. When I did this, the water coming out was almost hot, but then cooled off quickly.

-Disconnected all water lines with unit off to ensure no blockage.

Any ideas? Bad element?

Re: 1992 Hot Springs Sovereirgn isn't heating

The tub is only going to heat 1 degree or so per hour, so you are not going to feel piping hot water coming out of the heater.

How long has it been on?

Re: 1992 Hot Springs Sovereirgn isn't heating

Well, that's kinda what I've decided. I think I might just be impatient. It's been heating now for about 5 hours. It's about 74 degrees. So the water won't feel hot coming out of the heater return?

Re: 1992 Hot Springs Sovereirgn isn't heating

Check to see if it in "summer mode", if it is, the tub thinks it just started it's 8 hour sleep mode. Turn off "summer mode" and see if it starts up. 6 hours yesterday of trouble shooting and finally got it figured out. Thought I would share.

Re: 1992 Hot Springs Sovereirgn isn't heating

Thanks for the info. Turns out I was just impatient. I expected for the water from the heater to feel hot. But I supposed when it's fresh cold water running through it, it is not going to heat it that fast. The next morning the water was 104! Whew, had to turn it down a few degrees. Thanks again. All is well...

Sorry...summer timer didn't appear on those spas until 1995.

Re: 1992 Hot Springs Sovereirgn isn't heating

I'm thinking I am in the same boat as above but I am curious. I am not seeing any temperature rise but its only been a few hours. However, should I feel some degree of warmth on the heater itself? It's pretty cold to the touch so I am not that confident that it is actually heating and if I could feel some warmth on the element I would fee confident that it is in fact heating the water. I have the NF 6000 tri-bend heater and the circ pump is moving water fine. Filters aren't clogged either. I'm possibly just impatient but I seem to recall that the heater element should have some heat to it even if I just filled the tub. <img src=:" title="Question" /> <img src=:" title="Question" />

If your hooked up 110V then it will heat 1 1/2 - 2 degrees per hour. You won't feel much heat on the element. The tri-bend heater has a reset button on the black base. Always pull out the filters out (no junk in spa), they can look fine but be clogged with oils. If you lift them and let go they should float - if not it's time to soak them.
