I'm the original owner. Spa contains all original equipment with the exception that the relay portion of the panel was replaced a couple of years ago (relay failed) and there was a modified air gap installed at the same time. Both were performed by the Horsprings dealer.

So I drained and cleaned the spa this last weekend. Replaced the filters with new ones, refilled and added chemicals (bromine type), powered it up and closed the lid. Came back a couple of hours later and the water hadn't reached 80 degress yet which is the lowest the temperature panel will read. Usually it would be almost ready to go by now. Checked the heater which was warm to the touch, confirmed that the circulation pump was working, confirmed that all pumps/lights were working. I reset the main breaker as well as the sub-panel breakers. Checked on this site and figured it was a problem for the next day.

Next day I check and it's up to temperature (104 degrees) and the water is nice and clear.

It's great that it healed itself, but I'm wondering if something is on the edge of not working. I'd druther figure it out now and get the pieces/parts than get surprised.

The only thing different this time seems like the new filters, but they have been replaced before without event from a cold startup. Cold water temperature around here is 42 degrees.

Any thoughts?

I'm not really sure what you are asking. The tub will only heat about 4-6 degrees/hour, so if you filled it with 40 degree water it would only be about 44-52 degrees or so in a few hours. It heated up over the proper amount of time, so what is wrong?

My experience suggests that it heated up much faster in the past. If it only rises that amount per hour then I can see what you mean. Still it seems different.

Your spa should heat at 7-10 degrees per hour. Check the amp draw of the heater. It should be around 24 amps. If less, replace it.
