| 145+ degrees in tub |
I was reading the other posts but didn't want to steal a thread. I am having a problem with my hot springs grandee. With the heat off, it goes to 140+ (scalding water). The relay clicks off when I turn the knob.
I noticed that that there are two copper wires coming off the control pannel with a white tubing around them. I figured they were copper grounds but it sounds like they are for the thermostat. Where do they go? In the tub somewhere or a tube? This is an older Grandee model. |

Those are capillary tubes for the thermostat and Spa high limit. They go in a dry-well, probably in the bottom rail of the spa. If you don't have them there, then the t-stat isn't getting an accurate reading of the water temp, and the high limit won't trip because it isn't either.
If they're securely in place, you need to replace both of them, and also investigate if any relays are stuck shut.
Do you know the serial number of the spa? |

It is a Hot Springs Grandee (g231386). It is an older tub I got from a friend a year ago and finally installed. Those wires (or leads) go to nothing (yet). I am not sure where to put them. I believe that the spa trips the high limit sensor as the button on the tub trips.
My normal process for this is to drain water, and throw in cold to make it usable again. I want this to stop.
Can anyone get me a wiring and plumbing diagram? I know nothing about these things and have a tube coming out of the bottom of the motor compartment which is connected to nothing and leaks (slowly). I cannot seem to plug it either.
Thanks, John. |

Oh, and what is/where is the dry well located? |

"I noticed that that there are two copper wires coming off the control pannel with a white tubing around them. "
One end of the "wire" come off the control panel. Have you located the other end? As was said earlier, these are NOT wires but are "capillary tubes". They're VERY small tubes, filled with alcohal, the other end of which should be a bulb
The entire thing looks something like this;
IF, the bulb has been cut off (seen where people do this thinking it's just a wire that can be connected back up later). It will need to be replaced and completely explains why your spa is overheating. |

They are both like the one you posted in the picture. They are not connected to anything though. They are jsut hanging in the motor compartment. Where do I put them? |

The drywell is located on the right side of the equip compartment. Look for it!!!! A small hole fairly high on the right side, inside the equip compartment.
You could be fine once you get them in the right spot. |

If it's not there, look on wooden base support on the same side of the eqip compt. Having a brain freeze, either on base wood or inside equip compartment. Can't recall at the moment " title="Shocked" /> |

I didn't see it on the wall. There is a tube on the bottom of the motor compartment that was leaking. It fits nicely into that tube " title="Smile" />. I turned it on with the heater off (like the other day) and it didn't overheat (heater stayed off like it was supposed to). I haven't turned it on yet. I am making a deck around it along with making a place to put drinks.
Coming of the control panel with the sensor is another ground looking wire (in same bundle as thermostat wire). Does this need to be grounded for it to work? Or should I just let the wire hang?
Thanks for all the help. Can't wait until I can jsut sit and enjoy this thing.

They do have sensor bulbs on the ends, like the pic? If they've been clipped, they need replacement.
Yes, they both go there. One capilarry tube is the T-stat, the other is the spa high limit. If they're out, the spa may overheat, anbd if it does, the high lmit will not perate, and the spa may go over 150+ F.... Kinda like it already did " title="Shocked" /> |

One has a large bulb on the end and the other has a thinner tube on the end with a smaller tip like a ground. I guess the one is on the wrong spot then. I will try to take a pic later.
Thanks, John |

They go in sequentially, one first, then the other. If you try and cram both in at the same time, they won't fit |
