Heater not working

Hi all! My spa doesn't seem to be heating. I humbly ask for your aid after reading several post here and tryin a few thing and not being able to fix the problem. BTW-Yup I've read the Manual: http://www.rhtubs.com/blue-ridge-manual.htm So my Heater doesn't seem to be working. Otherwise This Blue Ridge Spa works great! Just running the jets can get the temp it up to around 88 degrees (yes the temp gauge works). display panel is real simple and only shows three lights: "ready" "heat" and "jets". It's got one nob to turn the heat up and 2 pneumatic buttons to turn on the light and the jets which both work great. So after doing some reading I tried some things like taking out the filters (which we're really dirty) to see if the heat would engage. Like the heating element wasn't getting enough pressure? Now I've exposed the pressure switch on the heating element. Turning the wheels clock wise or counter clock doesnt seem to do anything. What does do something is if I stick a screw driver in there so that the red button (pressure switch) is pushed, the "ready or "heat" light comes on, on the display. Problem is I can tell if it's actually doing anything (im afraid to touch the heating element to see if it's hot). So then one of two things happened after a few minutes, Something trips and I have to hit the HL switch to get it to run again OR the breaker is thrown at the box and I have to reset that. Can anyone help me? Can you tell me how the pressure switch on the heating element is SUPPOSED to work? is that button supposed to be pushed? BTW- the wheel be the pressure switch is real hard to turn either way.

Re: Heater not working

Please check your "Laing" circ pump.
It is probably failed, and there is no flow to light the pressure switch.

Re: Heater not working

Yup, thanks. Got a repairman out here who told me the same thing: Circulation pump broke. OK, So this is my pump: Laing Circulation Pump SM-1212-NHW-19-1 1" barbed connections, 115 volts, 60hz, 15hp, 3400rpm, 140watt, 1.3amp, 8.5uf http://www.spapartsdepot.com/product/69... _115V.html $245 OUCH! I sure would like to buy something cheaper that still works. Anyone have any suggestions (a link would be great)? Im handy with electric and can do some plumbing. I see a lot of cheaper pumps with 3/4" connections. How much more of a pain in my butt would that be (1" tubes go to/from it)? here's a little cheaper with 1"barbed: http://www.poolsupplyworld.com/spa-pump... 9.htm?id=4 http://www.hottubworks.com/cgi-bin/comm... 101TM1012N Cheap but not barbed like i need and the plug is different. doh! http://www.spadepot.com/shop/Laing-Circ... 08C55.aspx still cheap and has barbed but they are 3/4" not 1". I could strip the wire to fit the old plug with no prob though. any of these work for me (i find the site confusing)? http://www.spasnmore.com/html/Laing-SM9... -tubs.html Thanks much for any help or advice. <img src=" title="Smile" /> Jeff

Re: Heater not working

The new circ pump I bought is working great! I can see the water pumping (in the tubes and out the little jets) and I can see when the temp dial is turned, the ready light is one first and then the heat light comes one display telling me that it is heating. Sweet! Unfortunately it's still not heating <img src=" title="Sad" /> Doh! Can anyone throw me a bone here? How can I tell if my heater is working? Should it be warm to the touch? Should the water coming out of the little jets be warmer? I did originally messed with the pressure switch (on the heater) by turning the dial. Im hoping a just messed up a setting. I'd love any advice. Thanks, Jeff EDIT: - Here's some more infoportant info FYI-------------------------------- It's 110 volt Blue ridge spa (can't run the jets while I run the heater). http://www.rhtubs.com/blue-ridge-manual.htm Wouuld a 110volt only rasie 1 degree per hour? I'll test again tonight, but I believe it's been running constantly and since last night, the water temp has only changed from 71 to 73. I can see on the heater that the pressure switch button is now pushed by the pressure going to it from the new circ pump. So at least the new circ pump is working great. I could buy and use a mulitmeter to check the lines going to the heater to make sure it getting power? I've used a mulitmeter to check power outlet that way before so I think I can do that. After that wouldn't I want to check amperage to see if the heater is actually drawing amps? I don't really now how to do that. There is a high limit switch on the side. I believe I had to hit that to get it to start up in the first place. I believe I've tried it again since replacing the circ pump. But again the lights are working indicating that it's heating, I'm just not seeing a change in the temp. BTW- I know the thermostat works because I seen it change. I've gotten the tub up to 90degrees but using just a hot day, sunlight and the jets. Any other ways to tell if it's working? Do you know what the dial beside/part of the pressure switch button should be set at? Thanks much for any help <img src=" title="Smile" /> Jeff

Re: Heater not working

Ha! I spoke too soon! It's working! It's at 95degree right now. It's working it's just that it heats up very slowly (1 degree an hour?). Glad someone told how slowly it actually heats up. <img src=" title="Smile" />
