| Hot Springs Spa - Vanguard Model - NO HEAT |
Pump runs fine. Red indicator is on. Have reset heater, have removed filters for 24 hours, water chemistry is OK. Not sure why heater will not work.
Spa is at 75 degrees. Not sure if there is much more to troubleshoot before calling a technician? Last winter, I ran into the same issue and was charged $350 to replace a heater part, not sure what it was as I was not there to see them correct the problem.
Help. Thanks. |

Do you have a voltage meter?
If not, mashing the reset button is about all you can do. Can you detect circ. pump flow? |

Circ pump is working. I do not have a voltage meter. It is so hard to tell if it is being reset being that the reset button is covered in rubber...I shut off power, wait a minute or so, press the button hoping that it resets and then restart and wait to see if it heats...so far no luck.
I would hate to call a tech being that I paid 350 last time around to have a small tube that heats that water (or so my wife says) replaced.
what do you think? |

I would use the eraser end of a pencil and push that reset button for all you're worth before calling the tech.
Without a meter, there isn't really much you can do. Have you checked BOTH breakers to be sure they haven't tripped? (The 30amp and the 20 amp breakers)
The spa should have a 5yr 100% WARRANTY, is it still covered? |

I am a 2nd owner. The spa was purchased in 2002. I'll try the reset button one more time. Also, when you say the breakers I assume you mean the ones that are closest to the spa, correct? Not the ones from the main breaker? I didn't check the main but that may be it as well.
It's looking like the tech route if this doesn't work...think I'll be in for another 300 or is there some way around this...at the least I'll m,ake sure I am there when he takes a look at it. |

Turn power off to the spa and open the black IQ 2020 control box. Look at the relay where the heater wires connect (follow the wires up from the heater, they enter the box all the way to the left). Check to see if either of the two relays have black burn marks around them. If you bought or borrowed a meter you can check for voltage at these relays as well. If they are burnt up you can replace that whole heater relay board for just under $100. |

Dan: joer has an IQ2020, which doesn't have the two relays or two wires you speak of. He does have a heater PCB which might be toast, but no way of knowing without a meter " title="Very Happy" />
joer:
Just check the two breakers in the subpanel that is closest to the tub. You don't need to check the 50 amp in the main. If both the breakers in the spa subpanel are not tripped, you're going to have to bite the bullet and call for service, unless you're comfortable with a multi-meter " title="Smile" />
Likely problems: Bad heater PCB, Bad breaker, maybe another bad heater.
At any rate, Good luck!! |

You can tell if the heater relay board is bad without a meter though if it has black flash marks around the relays that are built into the PCB board. The 220V models usually show this sign. If he has the Tri-bend retrofit heater (which it sounds like he does by saying he pushed the 'rubber' button) I wouldn't be surprised if the terminals on the end of the heater cord are burned as well. Good luck. |

PROBLEM FIXED
Ended up calling a tech...resulted in a new 'computer board'??? which I understood was burnt out due to recent power outages in the neighborhood...am told it is something that normally happens and is routine as part of maintenance....300 bucks again! |
