| How much amperage does a element draw? |
For the sake of argument, 5.5k watt on 220.
Also, just looking at my board in detail because it's fun, are these things grounded at all? The element seems to be connected (via) relay to L1 and L2. |

Amps times volts = watts
Amps times 220 = 5500
Amps = 5500/220
25 amps |

Thanks for the info Dr. Spa.
How about the second part? Are they grounded somehow or am I right in that they are essentially hooked up to both the live (L1, L2) wires? |

L1 to L2. |

The ground protection comes from the housing of the heater. The housing is made of stainless steel, or there is a steel insert into a plastic heater housing, and these steel pieces are grounded. In the event of the element sending current into the water, these steel parts will sink the current to ground. |
