| Sundance Cameo Heat |
I have a Cameo 800 that will not heat. The problem began as slow heat, now it won't heat at all. Checking the heater, I have 10 ohms resistance, and 110vac to each terminal. 220 circuit so I believe the 110 should switch up to 220 but it never does. The hi-temp switch indicates open when it's cold. I can manually heat the hi-temp switch and it does close.
Does this not sound like a relay or control board problem?
Thanks in advance,

Measure across the terminals for the heater. All too often people make the most common mistake out there, they measure voltage to ground or neutral. 240V is measured across terminals. Most likely either your high limit relay or your heater relay are bad, if your spa shows it's calling for heat. On the Sentry 800 (LCD included) the relays are soldered to the circuit board, and unless you are real handy at component removal the proper way, replacement of the circuit board is in need of replacement.
One option you may have is to send the board to someone who can do the work, including myself, and they can go through the board and check/replace relays and in many cases, check the rest of the circuit. |

Charger,
Many thanks. I suspect the relay toasted but simply haven't had time to troubleshoot any further. The connector for the grey heater wire toasted, this is the second time that's occured. Naturally the relay is a bit burnt as a result. I'd have no issue replacing the relay myself as I'm an old electronics tech. Simply fire up my Ungar bench iron and dig out my solder sucker. Maybe I'll simply find a source for those and have at it. If those are something you can and would supply, please let me know.

I get most of my parts through Newark electronics (http://www.newark.com) or Digikey (http://www.digikey.com) and they will have the relay in question. Bad news is that you may have to do a few searches to narrow down the exact replacement. The sites aren't the best for cross refrencing all parts. |

Charger,
Again, many thanks. Yes, I do know who Newark is. Used to buy components from them. A replacement board is near $400. It should be worth my effort finding the relay. I prefer to fix stuff too rather than replace it.

Having toasted another relay, I ordered another today. Can't say enough for the service quality from REM Electronics. Their staff contacted me within minutes of placing the order...
