| Water Temp |
My first post does not seemed to have posted, so let's try again. Where would you like me to put my post? Heat problems, Watkins, Tiger Spa, Hot Springs, Sumatran model N, 1998 or maybe 2000. In this tread, or the Watkins thread? Thanks George |

Re: Water Temp
I did not know if I posted at SpaForums.com I would also be posting at
SpaPartsnet.com, No matter. ops:" title="Embarassed" />
Spa is a Tiger River, made by Watkins/Masco, model Sumatran Model N.
Year 2000 Serial # N1B1279
Not a fresh water ozone system, but comes from the factory already plumed to set up that way.
Heater is a No-Fault 6000 with Thermal cut-off.
Silent FLO 5000 Circulation Pump, with thermal cut-off.
Black IQ 2000 control box.
No one else has worked on this spa besides me.
All wiring is correct, and all GFCI breakers work as they should. The spa is also on a dedicated circuit.
System is 115 volts, and could be set to a 230 volts system if needed. GFCI high limit thermostat at the end of the power cord, and a GFCI breaker in the houses main breaker box.
The spa was not used last summer because of leak in the drain lines. I sealed the leaks and added water all worked except the water is set at 104 and is going only to 88 degrees. (For Several Days Now)
With the spa being off for a year should the heater some how been primed first with water? It’s not good idea to turn on your home electric water heater before filling with water. " title="Rolling Eyes" /> Thought I would at least ask.
When I first applied power the power light was flashing.
So I tripped GFCI at the main breaker box to reset. As instructed by the owners manual.
After the power reset the light stays a steady red.
I checked for clogged filters, and airlocks.
The circulation pump is working when jets are off.
I again powered the spa off for one hour to let the circulation pump cool.
Summer mode, vacation switch is set to off.
All buttons on the electronic control panel work.
I have the original owner manual, but does not help much when troubleshooting this type problem. A service tech manual would be nice. Or maybe a web site with steps and illustrations. " title="Wink" /> " title="Very Happy" />
What and how should I test first? :" title="Question" />
Power from control box to heater? :" title="Question" />
How to test thermal high and low switches? :" title="Question" />
Any help would be greatly appreciated. " title="Crying or Very sad" />
Thanks George " title="Laughing" /> |

Re: Water Temp
Open the control box and see if you have a little red LED shining in the upper part of the main circuit board that says heater on. This signifies the main board is sending power to the heater board. The heater has a reset button on the top. There is a square box on top that has a piece of tape covering a hole about dime size. The reset button is under this tape. Push hard and if you feel a clicky or notchy feeling then it was tripped. You should be good to go. If it was not tripped then check power at the heater terminals. If you have power then you can check continuity on the heater leads, you should get continuity. If not then the high limit may not have reset, try it again.

Re: Water Temp
OK Peteyboy
Vertically
I have green LM light, Ok
I have Red HR light, OK
I have another red led at the bottom that seems to be picking light up from the other led, but maybe not. Maybe it's on.
Tried the reset switch on top of the heater, and I don't think I heard a click.
Turned unit off for 30 seconds at the GFCI at the end of the power cord.
When I turned it back on, and it seems first to make a circulation motor noise, then a relay noise both about the same time, but motor first.
Then about 5 seconds later it makes another noise similar to a relay. Maybe the relay for the temperature thermostat.
My system uses a green, black hot, and green ground, white common. power cables from junction box to heater.
Since this system is 115 volts. To check that power is getting to the heater, and I'm probably wrong here, but go from black to ground for a 115v reading ? :" title="Question" />
Where to check for continuity? Under the black box on top of the heater, where that reset switch is? :" title="Question" />
And to test for continuity ohms at the same time on each end of the heating element? :" title="Question" />
Thanks George |

Re: Water Temp
FIRST - would the spa happen to be in summer mode? Look at the bottom right of your control display - you will see an icon if it's on. If so this is the problem. You would have felt the heater reset kind of notch in place or a click feeling if it was tripped. You probably wouldn't hear anything. Sometimes you need to push a phillips head screwdriver to get it to reset. You do have the heat turned up I hope? To test voltage to the heater you can check at the relay. Look above the terminal where the power wires connect. Above that are 2 relays - test voltage on the left relay, the bottom two terminals, black & white, go across these. You should get 120 volts or so. You can also test the top 2 terminals (coil) of that relay DC voltage.
Let me know what you find out. |

Re: Water Temp
No sir, that has been checked at the switch and at the control panel.
Tested reset switch with a screwdriver.
Heat is up.
Thermostat is now reading 94 degrees, but that could be from the sun, what little we've had today.
Will closing the lid, or running the jets help the system heat up faster? :" title="Question" />
I think running the jets cause the spa to heat slower.
I will wait a bit and see if temp keeps going up. Will wait to check voltages, and continuity if temps don't go up.
Do you visit this sites at all during the evening? :" title="Question" /> If so I'll let you know whats happening.
I have visited your web site, pdf's are helpful.
Thanks again Peteyboy |

Re: Water Temp
Peteyboy
I'm not counting my chickens before they are hatched, but it looks like it might have been the reset switch on top of the heater.
Temp is 96 now and moving up it seems.
Do you think this reset switch tripped because when I first turned spa on, there had not been any water to the spa heater compartment for so long? :" title="Question" />
I live just outside of Lexington, KY and have only lived here a few years now. So I don't have a lot of family, friends, and business to reach out to when I need advice or a easy solution to problem.
I don't know about you but I've been using the internet for 20 years now, and the two things that it does real well is education and research. The entertainment portion of the internet is OK at first but then it gets old.
So I will see what happens over night with the temp and let you know something tomorrow.
I will remember the help you have given me, and man you did not have to.
Thanks you very much George |
