hot springs sovereign warm

Hi all I spent a lot of time reading and didnt find the answer so now Im going to post.I have a 2002 Sovereign limited which I bought new,had installed professionally, its 230v.with 30amp and 20 amp breakers. It has always worked perfectly.I dont use spa a lot, maybe 15 times a year.I hadnt used spa for about 7 months and had turned off both breakers, well at some point I guess I turned them back on.When I deiced to turn on hottub I checked the water and it was warm,Now my tub is set to 102.The ready light doesnt come on,but everything else works.I know where you guys are going, lol.I know filters must be clean.I bought 4 new filters from the hotsprings dealer where I live.Installed new filters, reset heater switch on trumpet heater unit several times, still cant get bubbles out of floor of hot tub.Ran jets several times.Last time this happened filter were dirty, cleaned and worked great. The trumpet heater unit I can feel it vibrate slightly and its warm not hot.It must be something simple, but Im not a electrician. It has not been moved, and has been working perfectly, jets work lights work, but hot tub is staying about 83 degrees. When I trip the breaker for heater I hear the relay click at the tub.I dont have a meter to test power so if you can help any other way I would appreciate.

Re: hot springs sovereign warm

Without a meter you are just guessing but I would look towards the heater relay board or the heater itself.

Look at the terminals where the heater connects to the circuit board. Check to see if there are any black "flash" marks indicating it may have blown.

Also, check to see if the circulation pump is working, if not the power light would probably flash on and off.

Re: hot springs sovereign warm

Thanx dan I looked at relay board, all looks good.I have checked all obvious things just from reading all the post. What I dont understand is how without moving hot tub no electrical storms,I live in northern cali.No flashing power lights, clean new filters how does your 7000 hot tub just fail, when I last used it everything was great.I will get a meter and make the test that everyone has posted,I just think theres something dumb Im missing.I cant tell if the circulation pump is running.Theres no bubbles coming from the floor of hot tub but again theres no flashing power light.I beleive I need to disconnect one of the hoses to the heater unit to verify circ pump operation,is that correct.Thanx for spending the time to attempt to help me.

Re: hot springs sovereign warm

Ok I removed the hose on top going to the heater its pumping water I clamped it off and put it back on,I beleive I read thats how you test the circulation pump, dont laugh if I did it wrong, but I now have something that will help you guys with the big brains.I have had the temp set at 102 and nothing,I decided to turn it down, because I read that. When the temp was turned down to 86 degrees the ready light turned on green. If I turn it up to 87 it turns off.I hope you can now point me in next step to take.

Re: hot springs sovereign warm

The ready light coming on at 86 just means that the water temp is 86.

OK, now you need to get a meter to confirm that there is 220 volts getting to the heater, and test the heater leads themselves for continuity.

Did you check both breakers to make sure that they are on? Turn them off and on again to make sure before going crazy with other stuff.

Re: hot springs sovereign warm

ok I ohm checked heater wires 10 ohms,I checked voltage at connector on right 130 volts on left side it reads 001 across both post it reads 30 with power on to hot tub,I hope that helps you guys to be able to point me in the right direction, from what I have read I would guess that means the heater circuit board is faulty, unless I'm interpretting info incorrectly, but I have read enough post to know the heater is 9-15 ohms!.Plz help thanx again. Also again there is no burn marks on heater board or near relays have looked really hard.

Re: hot springs sovereign warm

Make sure you turned the heat up so the ready light is not on. If there is not 220volts across both terminals, then the relay board is bad.

Re: hot springs sovereign warm

Did not no I had to turn heat up to turn off ready light to test properly, thats why they call it dope(:I will retest tonite, sorry for incorrect readings

Don't know if we're the cheapest? http://scarritt.com/tigerparts2.htm. About half way down the page, right side, not pictured, 73355 Heater Board. $105.00, plus $9.00 shipping.

Re: hot springs sovereign warm

ok I didnt see burn marks on relays, but I was testing voltage while tapping on relays and the voltage started jumping around it went to 120 on the leg that has been 1.05 so I plugged heater back in turned on power and fireworks, definitely burn marks now on board So this test is over, need new board.
