Hayward spa remote actuator question

Hi everyone. Great forum. I have a question for you all. My mother was recently given a Hayward spa. It has a Hayward Power Flow pump, Hayward air blower and a Hayward Trimline Power Pack electrical box, which I assume is the controller? So we tried to get it up and running and on the front of the box there are two switches Heater (on and off) and System (on and off) and a schematic that shows how the four function operates (1 Heater and Pump Low 2 Pump Hi 3 Air Blower 4 Air Blower and Pump Hi). Now on the directions it tells you to press the button on the Remote Actuator that correspond to the four functions, but I cannot find the Remote Actuator. Now for the question, am I missing the actuator or am I not comprehending something. My guess is that the remote actuator is connected via a pneumatic line and that is its mechanism of action to control the four functions. Another question, would this be like the spa side controller, and if so which one will work? TIA

The "remote actuator" in your case is a simple air button. It is normally found on or near the knob that adjusts heat (if you have that capability from the spa). It is just a simple button with an air hose going to it. Your spa is old enough to where there is no "topside controller". Those are used for electronic spas now in production. Yours just uses air switching.

On a side note, you are my 1000th post! For that I just won a brand new hot tub! LOL j/k

Thanks for the reply charger. I have located a black air hose, but it is not connected to anything. So I guess I just have to find out where it was connected (I'll have to look at the heater knob again), or can I just buy a new air switch? I have some pics if I can figure out how to post them.
Congrats on your 1000th post.

Here is an overall pic of the heater, pump, etc.

I got the pics mixed up before. First on is overall pic, second one is inside the electrical box, where I think I see the black hose near the bottom of the box. Third pic is of the outside of the box where it talks about the four function actuator. If you see the actuator in the pics let me know or if I can buy one, what I will need. TIA

I see your heat control knob is on your heater, so ignore that part of my comment before. Your control button will be on the top of the spa, in the shell, so you can manipulate it from inside the spa while you are using it. Look for a button between an inch and 2 inches in diameter. That will be your control that hooks to the black hose.

Charger,

Your help is greatly appreciated. I did not know what that button was, or even that it was a button. Now does it work as four function in that you press it once for function one, twice for function two, etc? I guess I would have assumed it to have four buttons.
Also I know the spa is old, but how old do you think it is?
I try to get it hooked up this weekend and let you know how it goes, again many thanks.

One button, one switch, 4 functions, just keep pressing it and it will cycle through them and reset.

I do hope you will be replacing those burned wires before you fire it up long term though.

I would estimate between 15 and 20 years old, but it is hard to say for me.

OK. So we plugged it in and it would trip the breaker, checked and the GFI on the spa pak was bad. Replaced that and now the GFI works, because the GFI now trips. So looking at all the wiring it looks like the part on the bottom left of the controller to be bad and that is why it is tripping. Is that a contactor or relay? I need to replace it, but I don't know what it is. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am now thinking about getting a new spa controller/pak (SpaBabes SB-1000 w/ 2 speed pump and blower) and completely refurbishing the spa, with a new manifold style plumbing system and put a couple of more jets in...but we will see how that plays out.
