new cover problems

Buyers beware of the Spa Depot. I ordered a custom made cover on Feb 11, rec'd one an inch too big. After going back and forth with them for 2 weeks they don't want to make me a new one ( to the exact measurements I originally requested not different ones), they have the wrong sized one, ( asked me to send it back) and they refuse to offer a refund. They emailed me and said that usually when the cover is wrong they offer the client $50 store credit and that takes care of it. Its hard to believe that anyone would pay good money for a custom cover and then be "OK" with one that doesn't fit. Anyway anyone looking for a cover be aware of the Spa Depots policy to NOT make things right even though there motto is 100% customer satisfaction. The note below is a copy of the letter I sent to them with the exact details.: If anyone knows of a good place to get a cover, please let me know. thanks.

Hello. I 'd like to let you know about a recent purchase from the Spa Depot.

On Feb 11, I ordered a custom made Spa Cover online. Pamela called and sent a letter and email, confirming my measurements. On Feb 24 I rec'd the cover. It looked good but was an inch longer than the measurements I confirmed. (I ordered 77.5 x 53.5) the cover measured 78.5 x 53.5 and did not fit properly. I called Pamela that day and she asked that I email her photos of the cover, which I did, that day. I asked what I should do with the cover and she said "sell it on ebay", they would take care of getting a new one made. On Friday I called Pamela again and asked if the new cover was going to be made ASAP. She said she would request a rush on it. Later that day I rec'd an email from Pamela asking that I take the foam out of the cover and mail it in a smaller box back to the cover company. I called her on Friday to ask how this should be done. She said that they would issue an RMA and that UPS will pick it up. On Monday Feb 28 I rec'd the RMA @ email. UPS picked up the package on Tuesday March 1. I clld Pamela again and confirmed that the cover was being made and that I would not have to wait for the cover company to rec. the return. I was told that was correct. On Friday March 4 I rec'd a call from Pamela that the new cover would be shipped no later than March 8. On March 7 in the evening my time, I rec'd an email from Pamela asking me to confirm my measurements again. I clld her on March 8 and asked how the order would be going out on the 8th if in fact they have not even started to make the cover yet. She said that the Spa manufacturer is stating that the cover ( without the foam) is the right size. Note that I have never asked for a change of my original dimensions and that I had confirmed them several times now. I explained to Pamela that the company is not giving Spa Depot accurate info as they don't want to admit the error. I suggested that I send the Spa Depot, the Foam core that they asked me to take out, which measures 77 3/8 without the 1 inch steam guard spacers in the fold of the cover ( 77 3/8 + 1 = 78 3/. She said that she did not want me to send anything else back. I then suggested that the Spa Depot get the cover from the manufacturer that asked for the return, and she said that was not necessary. I at this point asked to speak with her supervisor to see why nothing I've been told is happening as far as dates go. She connected me with Mark. I explained this all to him. He said "you are exactly right" this should have been taken care of differently and he would have it resolved today ( March 8 ). He never got back to me. I called again on March 9 and asked to speak with Mark. I said that at this point since he never returned my call I no longer wanted to deal with Spa Depot and want a refund. He again agreed that the delays were not reasonable. He said that he needed to talk with his boss ( The Owner) and would get back to me. This is the same thing he said on March 8. I never rec'd a return call. I called Mark again today March 10, and asked if a refund has been issued. He said no. He still has not spoken to his boss about it. So at this point, four weeks after I ordered the cover and paid $373. I have no cover, no cover being made and no refund. Your satisfaction guarantee is a farce. I was more than patient with you company. I realize mistakes happen and waited 12 days from the time I rec'd the wrong cover before asking for a refund. I gave you every opportunity to correct the error and your company just told me lies. Lies about the cover being remade ASAP, when a new one would be shipped, about call backs and now about a refund. Its unfortunate that I have to regrettably never deal with your company again

I was looking for a cover on ebay & found someone in Fla selling them for $150 plus shipping. (In my case, $85 to NC) Checked out their "other auctions" & saw they had some listed as "oops" because they were the wrong size/color that a customer had ordered so they were getting $100 for them. I called & they had one very close to my size so I ordered it on Friday. The lady called me on Tuesday & said something wasn't right about the one she promised me & that she was just going to make me a new one to fit, any size & color, for the same price. It arrived 3 days later (Friday) in excellent condition.
I'm just glad to know some people out there still know what customer service is all about.

I got one off ebay from the spacoverguy. I'm very happy with it. $299 shipped to my door, Onterio to Michigan. My old 6 1/2 year old cover weighed in at 80 lbs! The new one 4" to 3" tapered is like a feather. Very nice quality. My local spa dealer wanted $550 + sales tax.

He makes any shape, took 5 weeks.

Re: new cover problems

Spacoverguy tends to get pretty good reviews, at least from what I've seen online.

The best thing you can do for yourself is do some in-depth research on the different options you can get in a hot tub cover. Also, the longer you can get a guaranty for, the better it will be for you in the long run.

Ebay can also be a good bet. Often, you can find a good deal on a cover and can save money. Make sure that the seller is qualified and has high ratings. There are people who run a whole business on ebay selling spa and jacuzzi accessories, so some sellers are actually very legitimate.

Re: new cover problems

One thing I would like to suggest, is a cover for the cover. A good spa cover is not an inexpensive item, and requires regular maintenance if you want to get decent life out of it.

I live in a climate that exceeds 100 deg F every summer, and near freezing several days in winter.
I noticed an ad for an elastic vinyl cover that goes over the standard spa cover. It costs around $200.
As much as some mid grade spa covers on sale.

What I did was to get a HD farm tarp and poly rope from Harbor Freight. For under $30 I have protected the cover from temp extremes as well as form another barrier from dust and grime.
It's easy enough to remove even on a regular basis, and can add months, even years to the spa cover.
It does not mean you should neglect conditioning of the cover, but it certainly makes that task easier and is not required to be performed as often.

Re: new cover problems

Oh man. I am really sad to hear about spadepot.com as I have been using them for sometime and have had no problems at all. In fact I have received every shipment ontime (most times in less than 3 days). They have had great customer service and their products have always been top notch.
