My friend is giving me an 8'x8' tub. I need to move it from her house to my house. I am female and can't round up any guys to help move it. I'm considering hiring someone, any suggestions??

Be very careful and go slow and deliberate - spa is heavy, bulky (and you all are amateur movers). My buddy smashed/cut his fingertip quite badly when we were setting down the spa in my driveway. We were not all being careful and communicating enough (it also would have helped had we ppositioned some temporary wood blocks underneath to allow finger clearance). After we brought him to the emergency room for stitches, we 4 handled the spa fine.


I just moved an old 8x8 Hot Spring Classic spa to my backyard. It weighs around 400 to 450 lbs. The local spa store wanted 350 $$ to move it for me. It did it myself.

My fiberglas shell spa's base is wider than the top, (exterior walls slant inward toward the top -sort of shaped like an keyboard key) Because of this slanting exterior wall the tub will not stand on its edge.


I started w/ 5 men including myself. We easily lifted it up and placed it onto the sidewalls of a full-sized pickup truck. 5 mile ride across surface streets no highways was no problem.

One other problem was getting it tilted wideways to get through my gate.
I put the tub on edge on a 4-wheel furniture dolly that I had modified with a 2ft x 1 ft piece of 5/8" plywood.

Dolly modification:
I deck-screwed the plywood piece to one end, perpendicular to the top of the dolly, to keep the spa from sliding off. Loaded onto the dolly on its side, the base edge of the spa rested against this plywood, and I had to stack up a couple 2" x 4" boards at the other end of the dolly to prop the slanting outer wall.

I would def say that 4 adult males can easily lift it. In our case, perhaps 5 was too many.

You are a female and are having trouble rounding up guys to move a hot tub for you??? There seems to be an element missing... oh I know... BEER! But seriously, depending on how far you are moving it, a local moving company should be able to help you out on this. Also check with appliance or furnature companies, they MAY be able to provide assistance.

I just move an 82" x 82" hot tub last weekend. Make a fulcrum out of a 2x4 and a 4x4. Using your foot, push down on the 2 x 4 to lift the hot tub high enough to slide a 2 x 2 PVC pipe. Slide the hot tub far enough to put another pipe under it. Keep doing this until you get the hot tub where you want it. I used 3 people (including me) - 2 women and one man.
