| Increasing Flow through jets |
I have a 5 year old Catilina (piece of junk, by the way) with a 2 stage 7 hp pump and Balboa Cat 100 controller. It has 46 jets and a large 2" foot jet. The foot jet cannot be turned off, you can only reduce the flow. The only way the flow really gets increased is by activating the air blower, but this causes heat loss in the cold winter months in Michigan and creates a lot of noise.
My questions are: 1) Is there a way to completely turn the foot jet off? 2) Most newer pumps have 2 high power pumps. Could another pump be added to increase flow? |

Re: Increasing Flow through jets
Hello Bogeyman,
Unfortunately you cannot shut off that jet unless it's made to. Doesn't sound like it....Just so we can get this straight now, there is no such thing as a 7HP pump in a hot tub. They boast it is based on GPM flow and amperage, corck of crap!
I am a licensed Millwright by trade and have seen motors up to 25 HP, a true 7HP motor weighs about 75LBS and has a 3/4 to 1" Shaft, not to mention draws 28 amps.
Just an estimate, no worries they all say that, LOL!
The flow actually does not increase with the blower on, it only feels like it. Adding air makes the water feel like it's moving faster, also cools it.
2. Is your pump a 2 speed? 3. What size of wet end do you have 2" or 2 1/2"?
You could add another pump but need a spot to add it in with out affecting the first pump. They have to push the water in the same direction.
Let me know if that helps,
Thanks, Michael

Re: Increasing Flow through jets
Michael,
Thanks for your reply! My pump is a two speed and the wet end is 2"
I have space to add another pump, but am not certain that the controller can activate it. Also need to know if could place it after the heater, as it would only be used when tub is in use. |
