| Baqua, Bromine or Chlorine |
I'm new to the spa. I am getting mine delivered on Saturday. They told me it was my choice of starter kits. They are going to send me Baqua unless I call them and change. I've read elsewhere that Baqua is better than bromine and/or chlorine. I don't want to use chlorine. Also, I heard that bromine has an odor as my wife was choking at the spa store when we were there. My spa will be in an 80% enclosed room. Any thoughts on what is better? Please help. Thank You, Gary |

Re: Baqua, Bromine or Chlorine
My store sells BaquaSpa but as a spa tech I personally hate it. It clogs filters and plumbing lines, and commonly allows water mold to grow in the spa. It works OK for some people but I see more problems with it than anything else. It is also more expensive on top of being an inferior sanitizer. I usually suggest Sodium Dichlor (chlorine). |

Re: Baqua, Bromine or Chlorine
well thank you for the info. Would you suggest Bromine? |

Re: Baqua, Bromine or Chlorine
Bromine is almost the same as DiChlor. They both work the same but I think Bromine has more of an odor than the chlorine.
My favorite setup is an ozonator with a small amount of DiChlor added after or before use.
You can also keep a non-chlorine shock (potassium monopersulfate) on hand and use it with either chlorine or Bromine. You can add a fair amount of it to help keep the tub clean without adding a heavy odor. |

Re: Baqua, Bromine or Chlorine
ok cool. My wife can't hand;e the chlorine so I will go with the bromine. Is the odor really that bad? can I cut back on the bromine to lessen the odor? She can't handle the chlorine |

Re: Baqua, Bromine or Chlorine
When you say she can't handle "chlorine," what do you mean? There are different chemical compounds of chlorine, all with very different properties. Sodium dichlor is almost PH neutral, and fairly gentle, when used properly. There will be about the same amount of chlorine in the spa (while you're using it) as there is in your city drinking water. It's not like swimming in a public pool- very different.
She'll smell the bromine though, and you'll be balancing the PH a bit more often with Bromine.
Sodium Dichlor with an ozone generator is a great way to go, and less stinky, and less acidic than bromine. |

Re: Baqua, Bromine or Chlorine
well they are delivering it today. I believe they are bringing the bromine. How difficult would it be to switch to chlorine, if they set it up with the bromine. |

I've had the same experience with baqua. The filters get clogged, we just had to replace circulation pump which was clogged, and periodically the baqua makes us cough.
I am finally making the switch to chlorine after five years using baqua.

Re: Baqua, Bromine or Chlorine
I'm using the sodium dichlor and it is working beautiful. My wife loves it. No strong odor, water is crystal clear and bromine smell. We absolutely love it |

Last time I "poo pooed" Baqua Spa, I got yelled at.
Yell at me again " title="Wink" />
Definitely go with Bromine, or Dichlor. |

Re: Baqua, Bromine or Chlorine
AS of right now we are very pleased with the Dichlor. Once a week I am putting in Brilliance Chlorinating granules (1 tblsp). I went to my local hot tub store and they gave me Super Clear. They said just put in a little as needed. So far the water is crystal clear, no problems. |
