Cleaning filters

Hi I hope someone can help me. I have a Hot springs spa with tri-x filters and i am using baqua spa. My dealer gave me muriatic acid to clean my filters, it created a sticky yello substance on them that i cant get off. HELP!

Re: Cleaning filters

Did your dealer know you were using baqua spa? With baqua spa you MUST use their filter cleaner before using anything else on the filter. Otherwise, you get exactly what you have (sticky goo) and it is completely imposible at that/this point to clean it off. Only option now, I'm sorry to say, is to replace the filter(s).

From the baquaspa web site;

BaquaSpa requires a special Filter Cleaner to be used instead of your normal filter cleaner.

BaquaSpa is a coagulant which combines bacterial cells and other small particles into particles large enough to be trapped by the hot tub filter. The resulting deposit is a grey sticky film which can only be removed with BaquaSpa Filter Cleaner. Consequently, if you use BaquaSpa your hot tub filters must be cleaned with BaquaSpa Filter Cleaner. If any other cleaner is used prior to stripping the film, the cleaner and the film will combine to form a gum like substance which cannot be removed and your filter will have to be replaced.

Not only that, but BaquaSpa and Tri-X filters is a recipe for disaster anyways. How long have you had the tub and have you had good luck with that filter/chemical combination? I'm guessing not too long.

The tri-X filters are a very fine (as far as particle size) filter mechanism. Combine that with the fact that BaquaSpa does not destroy but aids in filtering out particles and bacteria is going to be problematic for you in the long term. Once those filters plug up they are almost impossible to keep clean for any sort of duration. You'll probably often find that the red power light will flash causing the heater to shut off because the filters will not allow enough flow to the heater will the jets are on and the tub is calling for heat.

If you are set on using BaquaSpa I would suggest getting the paper element style filters. They are a little more forgiving as far as cleaning goes.
