PH strip ALWAYS purple!

Hi, I am getting tired of trying to keep my Bromine at the right levels. I cannot test my PH accurately because it always ends up purple on the strips and especially the Chemical Test Kit. I can't keep my Bromine levels good enough with my Floater, it is either not enough if I close it some, or too much.

I don't care about using Bromine, or Clorine or Dic....the other one......I forget the spelling.

What can I do? I just want to keep my tub sanatized, but I would love to be able to accurately test my PH also....before I ruin my equipment.

What is the best way to go?? Please post opinions and why if you have a moment....

Also....I bought a chemical KIT....it came with "Refresh" and "Polysheen" and Stain and Scale............are these all needed or recommended? I only see ppl talking about Sanitizer and PH.....are these other chemicals just "extras"............cause I need more if I should be using them! :lol

Chems

Hi kj1999, Your Bromine kills all the mean and nasty things in the water. You MUST use a "residual sanatizer" such as Bromine in your spa. 3-5 Parts Per Million (PPM) Shocking with a non-chlorine ( Potassium ) shock weekly is necessary. Virals such as E-Coli will proliferate 1,000 fold in a twenty four hour period in untreared water. (or something frightning like that).I understand your frustration with the floater, and PPM fluctuation, however stick with it. PH ( Potenz Hydrogen to the Tenth Power ) is an exponential scale that fluctuates with use, and sanitizer. The KEY to PH bliss is what we call " Total Alkalynity" TA is the total alkaline properties of the water, or buffer. TA is also a direct measure of "Sodium Bicarbonate" or Baking soda in the water. This is the "Big Chemical Pillow" that helps your PH behave between testing. A tablespoon or two of Arm and Hammer will make life easier. ( also makes a good bug, and tar remover for the car ) 3-5 PPM Bromine 80-120 PPM TA 1 ounce weekly Shock, and Hose, Hose, Hose that filter weekly. (please don't put it in the dishwasher....I think I'm gonna be sick...) <img src=" title="Wink" />

HIGH SANITIZER level. Back off your additions of sanitizer. Shock spa weekly or bi-wekly according to the bottles dose for a shock treatment. Leave cover open for 20 minutes plus while shocking.
