Something's wrong with Bromine levels.

This problem has been going on since the beginning of the month.

Spa: Oasis Mohave MT, bought/installed mid-August 2008.

- I use the Frog cartridge system for Bromine dispensing.
- I also have a Frog charcoal cartridge.
- The spa has an Ozonator.
- I shock the system weekly, and change the Frog Bromine cartridge every two weeks.
- Clean the filter every month with Filter Fresh.
- The water is tested daily with a test strip.
- For the past 10 and half months, I've had no problems keeping the chemicals stable. I was changing the water every 4 months religiously. My wife and I use the spa daily.

At the beginning of July, I noticed that the Bromine levels were falling, which typically meant that it was time to swap out the cartridge. Within a week, the Bromine levels were still falling, which is unusual, as the cartridges are usually good for two weeks. So I swapped out the cartridge for a new one, thinking that the last one was a dud. Bromine levels were still falling.

This past weekend, I went out and bought a bobber, and Bromine pucks, I also bought a new paper filter, thinking that this may have been the problem. Still no Bromine!

This time I suspected my test strips. So I double checked with a test kit that uses little bottles of chemicals. The second kit confirms the test strips, I have no Bromine in my water!

What's taking my Bromine out of the water? The installer was no help, saying that they're starting to "discontinue" the Frog cartridge system. Oasis Spas (in Minnesota) email address is no longer alive.

Re: Something's wrong with Bromine levels.

Is it possible that the Bromine level is too high ?
I am asking this because if the chlorine level tops ( as far as I remember) 10 ppm a test kit will show you 0 ppm. Now - people will add more chlorine thinking that there is none in the Pool / Tub.
Not sure if Bromine test kits will do the same, but you may want to look into this possibility.

BTW - personally I use Chlorine for certain reasons
