| help needed! added ph up, water got cloudy |
New to hot tubs, just got a used one up and running with no leaks. So it's been ok for a week and a half now. I've been using a bromine floater, and just today I checked the pH as usual it was very low, so I added a bunch of pH up (sodium carbonate) and waited a while, checked it, added more, waited, checked again, and added a bit more, and all of a sudden the water turned cloudy white. So my question is: will this clear up or should I drain it and start fresh, and dump the bromine for Dichlor, and get new test strips (I think the old ones are a few years old and may not be working correctly)?
Any help is appreciated! |

So... it turns out my old test strips were not good anymore (maybe some moisture got into them?), and I had brought the pH up way too high- above 8.5, and the calcium precipitated out of the water (0 calcium hardness according to the new test strips). As soon as I got the pH down to a reasonable level with sodium bisulfate, and I stirred all the calcium up off the bottom, the calcium hardness went back to normal, and everything is fine. |
