Dimension One Lotus Bay - to buy or not?

We are looking to but a spa this week. We are impressed with all the bells and whistles on the D1 Lotus Bay but I have just read some horrible reviews on another forum about repair problems. Anyone out there with D1 experience and specifically the Lotus Bay. Otherwise we were considering a Hot Springs or a Jacuzzi. Any input greatly appreciated....

Re: Dimension One Lotus Bay - to buy or not?

We've had a D1 Chairman since new in 2000. Aside from normal maintenance items like rebuilding pumps and replacing the circ pump after 7-8 years of use it has had two cracks in the tub (leaks) one was repaired by the vendor. The other I'm dealing with right now because I decline to ship the tub to California so the factory can honor their 10 year warranty ha ha. I suspect I am chasing my tail here and other cracks will appear in the next year or 2. I am impressed with the D1 spa pack (motors, heater, circuit board, etc) but not the tub itself and their interest in standing behind it. I'm not a happy D1 customer. You decide.

Re: Dimension One Lotus Bay - to buy or not?

Twiggy,

What other forum are you referring to? What are the horrible reviews? I too am looking at a D1 tub, and was looking at the Lotus Bay, until I found a smokin' deal on a Sarena Bay ($15,500 Cdn). So, even though the Sarena is bigger than we need, we are pretty much ready to ink the deal.

I have also read on another forum about some issues with the M-Drive control panels needing replacement, but that was about the extent of an real "credible" concerns. It is my understanding that early models of the M-Drive control panels were prone to problems, but it sounds like they have improved them. Then there was a guy who sounded like he got a complete lemon, with nothing but one problem after another, but every manufacturer has those.

Overall, D1 is very highly regarded and is always mentioned in the top 5 when people ask "what are the best hot tubs".

Hi Wannago,

I'm looking at D1 as well Amore Bay or Sarena Bay. I'm from Toronto, Ontario. Where did you find this price? And did you get one?

Re: Dimension One Lotus Bay - to buy or not?

No, after thinking about it a bit more, the Bay series of tubs would just not work for us in our yard setting (due to the shape and access requirements, etc.).

We ended up initially buying a Jacuzzi J-480 from Jacuzzi Premium Spas of Calgary, but after absolutely deplorable post-sales customer support (aka=none), we returned the tub and bought a Sundance Maxxus (long story).

We are so glad...and realize what a big mistake we made by not checking out the Sundance spas when we initially purchased. The Sundance is far superior to the Jacuzzi J-480 in every way.

As far as the D1's go, I cannot comment as I never did experience one. The dealer with the great prices is Wild Rose Hot Tubs in Lethbridge, ALberta - several thousand cheaper than here in the city. But, as I said, that is moot as we decided against a D1.
