Fair price for "reconditioned" Tub?

Hello to all. I am very new to hot tubs, and am currently researching to buy one as a surporise birthday present for the wife. There is a local guy here who sells "reconditioned" hot tubs (new pumps, motors, control units). He has a 2002 sundance cameo that intrigues me. The tub appears pristine. His asking price is $3,000. Is that a fair price or at least in the ball park? Is 2002 old in "spa years"? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Fair price for "reconditioned" Tub?

ALL new pumps, motors and controllers?? What type? OEM, or some cheap off the shelf retrofit? Sure he's just not rebuilding and reconditioning? Any warranty?

2002 Suncoast Cameo. Rebuilt pumps, new motor. Offers a one year warranty but it is just some guy out of his house, which scares me a bit.

"it is just some guy out of his house, which scares me a bit"

The old saying "Caveat emptor" (buyer beware) comes to mind, $3000 is still a lot of money.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Didn't know it was a guy working out of his house until I went to see the tub this weekend.

Funny...some 20+ years ago when I was just your lolely independent service tech (working out of my home), I did the same thing <img src=" title="Smile" />. Ask for some references from other customers of his. It could be a nice deal.
