If you're tired of spending a fortune on expensive circulation pumps, consider switching over to Grundfos! Here is an example of how to do it... It will not only save you money now, but in the future!
This replacement circulation pump failed after less than a year, it cost the homeowner more than $400 to have it replaced then. So in comes a little bit of rework and ingenuity to create a healthier (financially) situation for the spa owner.
Here are the components necessary for a conversion of a typical Blue Ridge, White Mountain, Gatsby or other similar brand of spa using an expensive circulation pump. 3/4" to 1" Barb fittings (2) 1" slip to 3/4" MPT Female elbow fittings (2) 3" section of 1" diameter PVC Pipe 4 Hose clamps PVC Cement and Cleaner About 3 feet of 1 inch ID hose A Grundfos Circ Pump.
The above is pretty much self explanatory. This is plain common sense - just assemble the components to create a u-bend. We're doing this because the Grundfos circulation pump has a discharge route that is opposite from other pumps, but it's a lot less expensive to implement and replace in the future. Considering that these pumps are usually installed to run 24/7/365... this is a really cheap and better alternative. Yes, we COULD flip the pump around 180 to eliminate the U-Bend scenario, but in most cases it's not practicable because of the suction line positioning. This way results in the least amount of effort (quickly) and can be done with a spa that's full of water too (if you're fast).
Simply assemble the pump and hoses as shown here. This is simple folks!
Now this is the finished installation. Awesome and works well. The 500+ GPH of the small Grundfos pump takes care of everything.
