FlexPVC - Flex PVC Pipe By the FOOT

Inquiry posted on 02/05/05
What glue and primer are required for spa flex to sch 40 pvc fittings?
Response
I prefer Oatey or other good brand of standard PVC cleaner, with heavy bodied CLEAR (Usually a Green can) standard PVC Cement - not the blue stuff.
Inquiry posted on 02/06/05
What if the "blue Stuff" has already been used on some of the fittings? Will they fail or leak? What affect will it have on the system?

Thanks
Response
Simply use a LOT of pvc cleaner on the old junctions, then use a LOT of the clear heavy stuff. You can never use too much. That Blue stuff has additives that really don't help things a lot. Provided you've got enough mating surface, the reglued sections should hold up well. Just be aware that if it's cold then they'll need to sit for a while. If it's below 50, then you really need to warm the fittings and hose up before gluing together. Temperature affects everything with pvc plumbing. Plumb in the summer, minutes to use. Plumb in the winter, hours.

Working with previously glued spa fittings is always a crap shoot. If at all possible I always recommend cutting the pipe back and replumbing using new couplers and pipe edge.

That said, adequate pvc glue drying time I'd guess to be about 3+ hours prior to use since you're reusing separated parts.

Be sure that they're as clean as you can make them.
