The split nut is a fantastic way to fix a broken female union "nut" without having to replumb a new union onto your pipe! In the spa biz, union connections are used on many components. They are commonly found on stainless heaters, pump connections and sometimes filters and valves. Measuring what size nut you need is a little confusing!The size DOES NOT CONFORM TO YOUR ACTUAL PVC PIPE SIZE!!!!! The easy way is to MEASURE ACROSS THE MALE THREADS of the connecting "buttress" fitting as follows:
Dimensions:
1.5" PVC union threads will measure 2 3/8 to 2 1/2" across. The opening on the pipe side is 1 15/16". 400-5491, 415-4021
2.0" PVC union threads are 3 to 3 1/16" across. the pipe side opening is 2 5/16". 400-5421, 415-5201
Pipe side openings can be trimmed with a jig or coping saw to allow for slightly larger pipe size.
PLEASE NOTE If you have a hayward brand or Jacuzzi brand pump, these union nuts will not fit! Both Jacuzzi and Hayward use specific union threads that are not compatable with the split nuts above.
