How Hot Tub PVC Sizes Actually Work
Hot tub plumbing sizes are NOT measured the way most people expect.
The size a fitting is called 1 half inch, 1 inch, 1 and one half inch, 2 inch, etc. is NOT the measurement of the hole in the fitting. It refers to the inside diameter of the pipe that glues into that fitting.
Since you cannot see inside installed plumbing, you must measure the outside diameter of the pipe to determine size.
Pipe Outside Diameter Chart
1 half inch plumbing measures approximately 3 quarter inch outside diameter
3 quarter inch plumbing measures approximately 1 inch outside diameter
1 inch plumbing measures approximately 1 and 1 quarter inch outside diameter
1 and one half inch plumbing measures approximately 1 and 7 eighth inch outside diameter
2 inch plumbing measures approximately 2 and 3 eighth inch outside diameter
2 and one half inch plumbing measures approximately 2 and 7 eighth inch outside diameter
Always measure the OUTSIDE of your pipe before ordering.
