Pump Impellers
Spa Pump Motor Runs But No Water Flow?
One of the most common hot tub problems is when the spa pump motor runs but no water flows through the jets. In many cases this means the pump impeller inside the wet end is worn, stripped, or damaged.
Typical symptoms include:

Spa pump motor runs but no water flow

Hot tub pump hums but not pumping

Spa pump running but jets have little or no pressure

Hot tub pump spinning but not moving water

Pump works but circulation is weak
When these symptoms appear, the problem is often inside the pump wet end assembly. The impeller may be stripped on the shaft, cracked, or blocked by debris. Replacing the impeller or wet end parts can often restore normal spa operation without replacing the entire pump.
In many cases the capacitor is blamed, but capacitors are often the symptom rather than the cause of a motor not starting. The real issue can be internal centrifugal switches inside the back of the motor, and many of those switches are no longer sold separately.
That’s why identifying the correct impeller, diffuser, or wet end components is important when diagnosing spa pump problems.
