Pump shaft seals are critical components inside spa and hot tub pumps that prevent water from leaking along the motor shaft where it enters the pump wet end. When a shaft seal fails, water can leak from the pump housing and eventually damage the pump motor.
A worn or damaged spa pump shaft seal is one of the most common causes of pump leaks in hot tubs and spas. Replacing the shaft seal during pump repair or wet end service helps protect the motor and restore proper pump operation.
Common symptoms of a failing shaft seal include:
Water leaking between the pump motor and wet end
Hot tub pump leaking from the bottom
Spa pump leaking when running
Rust or water marks under the pump
Wet end leaking near the motor shaft
In many cases the shaft seal fails when the pump overheats, runs dry, or when chemical imbalance damages the seal faces.
